Answer:
1.
Elaborate the following concepts :
a. ICT is the
technology required for information processing, in particular, the use of
electronic
computers, communication devices and software applications to
convert, store, protect, process,
transmit and retrieve information from anywhere,
anytime.
ICT (information and
communications technology - or technologies) is an umbrella term that
includes any communication device or application, encompassing: radio,
television, cellular phones, computer and network hardware and software,
satellite systems and so on, as well as the various services and applications
associated with them, such as videoconferencing and distance learning. ICTs are often spoken of in a particular
context, such as ICTs in education, health care, or libraries. The term is
somewhat more common outside of the United States.
b. The benefits of ICT in
language learning: ICT can facilitate not only delivery of instruction, but
also learning process itself. Moreover, ICT can promote international
collaboration and networking in education and professional development. There
is a range of ICT options from video conferencing through multimedia
delivery to websites which can be used to meet the challenges teachers face
today. In fact, there has been increasing evidence that ICT may be able to
provide more flexible and effective ways for lifelong professional development
for today’s teachers. ICT also is fundamental to the implementation of
e-education and offers greater opportunities to access learning redress
inequalities and improve the quality of teaching and learning. ICT
also makes it possible for teachers to offer learners unprecedented
opportunities for development and lifelong learning.
c. The weakness of ICT in language learning :
1. The program is designed using
branching program so the student can have the possibility to skip the
assigned topics when they think it is too easy. To avoid from happening
teacher should go around the language laboratory and monitor that everyone is
doing the same thing. If the teacher sees one student is trying to play smart
and skip the topic, he should remind the student to go back to the assigned
topic.
2. The program will be useless in the
hand of not creative teachers because they will just bring the students to the
computer laboratory and let the students do whatever they want. In this kind of
situation, some students feel that the teacher will not supervise them so
instead of doing the activities in the program they will just play computer.
2. The appropriate ICT Media and the
reasons for:
a. Teaching listening and speaking:
In my opinion, the appropriate ICT media for listening and
speaking is availability of language laboratory which is equipped with audio
–visual like CD, Video player, Earphone, computer and so on. The students can
listen to the native speaker model which is displayed with video player. The
students are asked to simulate the conversation which is displayed in video-cd.
The teacher guide to practice among them.
The importance of listening in language
learning can hardly be overestimated.
Through reception, we internalize lingusistic information without which
we could not produce language. In
classroom, students always do more
listening than speaking. Listening
competence is universally “larger” than speaking competence.
b. Teaching reading:
The appropriate ICT media can be used is blog. The teacher
can guide the students to read the reading materials from someone’s blogger.
c. Teaching Writing:
The appropriate ICT media in teaching writing is tape
recorder or CD player. By using tape recorder or CD player, we can dictate by
using tape recorder or CD player and the student will write down what the
cassette says (for elementary student).
d. Teaching Integrated Skills:
The appropriate ICT media in teaching integrated skills is
computer and software. By using computer and software, the student can master
all of the listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The name of the soft ware
is grammar software. It contains of questions and automatic answer and
grammar lesson.
3. Internet
is very important in language learning because learners are given a chance to
study and review the materials as many times they want without limited time. For example e-mail writing clearly create a real purpose
and audience, both of which are sometimes lacking in the more conventional
writing classroom, develop student’s grasp of technology , improved their
command of English, give them a sense of pride in their own work and enlarged
their awareness of themselves as member of international, global community.
4. The critical issues of
utilizing internet in Indonesia are :
1. Government of Indonesia should block porn movies;
2. Government of Indonesia should be aware of
prostitution by using internet access;
3. Government of Indonesia
should be aware of game online. It can addict our children and make them lazy
to study etc;
4. Make a students addicted to internet;
5. Cyber crime.
